Illness

I'm flat on my back with a bad cold and despite having done some more sketching, getting my sketchbook from the other room is way too far of a journey to make right now. Ill post up some sketches once I get out of bed.

sketch

Here is the finished sketch. It looks alright without the original to compare it too. I think David slaying Goliath is a pretty good image to start off a study sketchbook with. The whole thing took about 3 hours...really got to work on my speed.

This is when all the mistakes start popping out.

I haven't done any drawing in the last two days on account of all this traveling I've been doing. Two days and Im already rusty! to get back in the swing of things I finally started up my study moleskin. Ill finish the drawing in the morning when Im fresh and my mind is clearer.
Tomorrow I'll also break out the bridgeman and loomis and do some anatomy studies. time to kick all this laziness and start being awesome.

Personal Audit

Chad Grohman asked everyone at the end of his sketchbook class if they had a mission statement that summed up what they did in illustration. I've been drawing a blank on this question for the last week so I figured it was time to write down a "personal audit" of sorts. I've always kind of pushed these thoughts aside but with the professional world only 6 months away I can't really afford to wait any longer.

-What type of art am I looking at the most?
Concept art, landscapes, interior and exterior spaces, fantastic illustration.
-Who are my favorite Masters of this type of Art?
Landscape- Albert Bierstadt, Frederick Church
Figure-Bouguereau, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Bridgeman
-Why is it impressive?
technically and visually amazing
-who are some contemporary artists that are impressive?
Whit Brachna, Adam Paquette, John Harris, John Berkey, Donato Giancolo, Greg Manchess, Andrew Jones, Dylan Cole, Khang Le
-What are my current strengths?
Basic Value and Form
-what are my current weaknesses?
color, anatomy, landscape, detail, time, decisive strokes (no noodling)
-What do I have to do to create visuals like these?
draw more, more structured drawing time, doodle, book study, from life, speed painting, from imagination
-What industry do I eventually want to work in?
post production illustration

so I haven't been doing anything on or related to that list thus far.
yikes! better get to work!

Editorial Adjustments

continuing to block in shape and color
departed from my thumbnail quite a bit at this point but Id say its for the better. Time to go in and tighten things up. The typography will be adjusted towards the end as well, I just needed to see how it laid over the illustration
